Software Depot

Our core service is the provision of the Software Depot order management system. The Software Depot allows for purchase of common software titles available at academic discounts. The products offered through the Software Depot are coordinated through a single reseller under an agreement negotiated by the UC-TAS group. As such, all software is deeply discounted from off-the-shelf prices.

License Coordination

For specialized software needs the COSL coordinates site licenses and volume purchases to provide discounted pricing. Volume licenses are negotiated either independently within our office or in coordination with other UC schools via the UC-TAS group. COSL does not provide procurement services for single purchases of specialized software titles; COSL handles software purchase agreements only if they reach a scale by which significant volume discounts are available. Lending Library

COSL offers a lending library for software titles purchased through our office. This allows for the purchase of software licenses without having to buy infrequently used media.

Instructions for checking out software media are as follows:

• mail your checkout request to <manager@software-depot.ucsb.edu>, including the product name and your order number
• you will receive a confirmation response with instructions on when you may check out the media at our office
• return the media within 24 hours of checkout

Software Downloads

A limited number of software titles are available for download at the campus ftp site, but usage of them is strictly illegal unless a valid purchase of the pertinent item has been negotiated through COSL.
