November Holiday Closure for COSL/Software Depot

The Software Depot will be closed for purchased media pick-ups or loaner CD requests/pick-ups from Monday, November 23 through Monday, November 30.

Any requests for loaner CD's and other inquiries sent to the Software Depot during that time, will be acknowledged on Tuesday, December 1.

The on-line order system will be available during this time. Orders will be processed after December 1.

An update for Symantec EndPoint Protection for Windows has been released. If you have purchased a license for your windows computers, you may go to the current ftp site to download this release: 11.0.5.

This update says it supports Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7

An update for compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6 is not available yet.


EndNote X3 Now Available for Macintosh

Thomson has released EndNote X3 for the Macintosh. It is now available for those who have purchased a license through COSL/Software Depot.


Windows 7 update

Windows 7 will be available in the Software Depot Online Order System beginning next week -- 9/8/09.

Vista Business Upgrade and all license versions are no longer available. They are being replaced with Windows 7 versions.


Snow Leopard Update

If you are upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6, from Leopard 10.5, please check out the issues that are cropping up online. If you have installed updates to 10.5, but they have not fully installed, Snow Leopard may freeze your computer.

Snow Leopard 10.6 has been released and is now available in the Software Depot online order system.

The license is only available for upgrading from Leopard, not Tiger. If you want to upgrade from Tiger, there are some Leopard 10.5 licenses available for purchase. Please check the Apple site for: Mac OS X v10.6:

"As you may have heard, a recent decision by a court in Texas issued an order on August 11, effective after 60 days, prohibiting Microsoft from distributing certain custom XML functionality in Microsoft Office Word. As an existing customer you can continue to use Word as you have been. The order does not affect your use of any functionality in Word."


Windows 7 update

Windows 7 is expected to be available in Sept.
For those who have been using Vista Ultimate, it will not be part of the volume license available for Windows 7.
Windows 7 enterprise, which must be purchased with a software assurance license, will be incorporating the the ability to play commercial movie DVDs.

    For those who are looking forward to Windows 7, the current time-line for its emergence is October or November 2009.

    For those who wish to continue using Windows XP, the extended support period will end on April 8, 2014.


    Norton Antivirus Renewal/Purchase (expires 06/09)

    The renewal process for Norton Antivirus has begun. All those who have purchased this product for 2008-9 are being sent renewal notices. Pricing and information for 2009-10 will be posted when renewal numbers are gathered and we are able to determine the number of licenses to purchase for the new year.

    Microsoft Changes PerformancePoint Server

    Per Microsoft: PerformancePoint merging with SharePoint

    As of April 1, 2009, this server will no longer be available for purchase. When the next version of Microsoft Office is released, the Monitoring and Analytics capabilities will be included with SharePoint Server Enterprise. Microsoft will continue to support PerformancePoint, including “Service Pack 3” later this year.
